Jerry Hirst

Men's Tennis
Induction Year: 1991

If the current standards stood in the 1960's, Gerald "Jerry" Hirst would have been a three-time All-American, however such honors did not exist in his time with the Lion Netters. He qualified in all three of his seasons for the NAIA national tournament. In 1961, he reached the third round of the tournament. In 1963, he made it all the way to the quarterfinal round. He also made it to the fourth round in 1965. In doubles, Hirst reached the NAIA semifinals in all three of his seasons, teaming up with his brother, fellow Lion Hall of Famer Wayne Hirst, in two seasons and also in 1963 with Lion Hall of Famer Bobby Peek.

Hirst teamed up with his brother Wayne to win the LSC doubles championship in 1965, while losing in the finals to his brother in the singles championship. After his time with the Lions, Hirst went on to coach and teach school.
